PLAYED THROUGH AN AMP USING THE K & K TWIN SPOT PICK UP...
PURELY ACOUSTIC DEMONSTRATION
BY MICHAEL STEWART...
Wayne has been building  Selmer Maccaferri guitars for several years and really enjoys building them..which is great for us!!
Also as you read the details of this guitar you will agree it is incredible value for money!
His latest work is a beautiful D hole built from the original Selmer Maccaferri plans.
Wayne is one of the few luthiers who builds Gypsy Jazz Guitars with real heat bent pliage (folded sound board) from the Bridge down.  This is a design feature of the original Selmer Maccaferri guitars and is quite rare as it is very hard to do. It also adds to the volume and tone of the guitar.

I also love that Wayne has given this guitar an Aussie twist with the use of beautiful Australian red Cedar for the sound board and a finger board made from Queensland Walnut.

For the back and sides he has used stunning Chechen. This is a dense variegated brown hardwood that is a relative newcomer to lutherie. The wood is hard and dense offering great sustain with balanced high's and low's.
Wayne also installs a K &K twin spot internal pick up….to really sweeten the deal!
I will be adding more photos and videos as this latest model nears completion.

I asked Wayne about his work-

My name is Wayne McPhee
I started building guitars in 2009, I was learning to play and decided to upgrade from the cheap guitar I had, I had a budget to stick to so I went shopping and almost all the guitars in my price range was Chinese or Indonesian so I decided to build myself one so I did and that was the start of an addiction. At the moment I’ve built about 60 guitars.
I started with steel string guitars, then progressed to classical guitars which are a specialty of mine. I also have built archtop guitars and a variety of electric guitars but I prefer acoustic guitars. The Selmer guitars are a real challenge and I really enjoy building them now, that wasn’t always the case the first one really gave me a hard time but it turned out great and now I have a feel for them, so not giving me such a hard time now but still a challenge.
I only use quality materials on whatever guitar I’m building outside and inside.
Bracing is very important and for soundboards I use spruce for the main braces, all of my acoustic guitars have lattice bracing in them reinforced with carbon fibre, for lattice I use paulownia it’s light and very stiff.
I now teach guitar building at the local mens shed for a few hours every Friday, it’s great helping people to build their first guitar I currently have two guys I’m teaching and I also help some of the other guys who have built guitars but are a little unsure of something.
