Alves de Puga “Special Chorus”

Demo of This "Special Chorus" by Rodrigo Santiago

Deep in the South West of France is the village of Orthez where the luthier Jean Louis Alves de Puga has been crafting Selma guitars for over 20 years with his son Timo. Jean Louis prides himself on making as much of his instruments as possible by hand. He makes a very limited number of instruments each year and takes great pride in his work.

Due to poor health Jean Louis has had a break for most of 2022 so I was thrilled to hear he was back working and was building a “Special Chorus” model for Australia to celebrate his return

The “Special Chorus is a magnificent Oval hole 670 made with a solid Spruce top, Mahogany neck and Rosewood  back and sides. This classic combination of woods need no introduction for their tonal qualities.

For the “Special Chorus” Jean Louis also adds a mother of pearl inlay around the sound hole and creates beautiful binding for all the edges.

This Alves de Puga D670 has a fabulous tone and plays beautifully.

At $2700 this is guitar full of character and with only a couple brought into the country it is an exceedingly rare guitar in Australia.
